On a Personal Note:

As a family law practitioner, I recognized that there was a huge gap between the individuals who had the financial resources to retain private counsel for their family law legal issues, and the financially destitute individuals who were financially unable to afford counsel. While the latter group of individuals were Legal Aid eligible given their low income, Legal Aid was unable to provide legal services to these individuals in consideration of the high need of individuals seeking the service and the lack of staff attorneys and/or volunteer attorneys.

Recognizing the need for legal services for Legal Aid eligible individuals, in the fall of 2013, My co-chair and I partnered with The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland and Judge Colleen A. Falkowski of the Lake County Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations Division, to develop a quarterly clinic in Judge Falkowski’s courtroom. The quarterly clinic invites prescreened and qualified Legal Aid eligible individuals to come to the courthouse and meet with one of the numerous volunteer attorneys.  The volunteer attorney assists the “client” in the preparation of all of the simplified forms that are necessary to initiate the divorce action, obtain interim support, and finalize the divorce of the “client”.
